If there’s one thing I realized when it came to shedding
pounds, it’s the importance of ensuring that the driving force behind your
program comes from inside you. If you’re doing it because you feel pressured by
the opinions of others, or if you rely heavily on external weight loss programs
devised by “experts,” then chances are success will elude you. The peaceful
approach to weight loss emphasizes above all the harmony between internal and
external: your external actions must always flow from your internal impulses
and thought processes.
Thus, I begin my e-book with the internal, discussing the
importance of being aware of what you eat and why you eat. Then I review the
importance of accepting internally that you can’t eat everything you used to.
With this as a basis, I encourage readers to go external and create a support
system of family and friends to provide them with assistance in reaching their
weight loss goals. Beyond that, I know that sometimes there are situations
where everyone needs more external reinforcement to replenish their internal
motivation, and that means reaching into a Self-Care tool bag.
When I talk about Self-Care tools, I tend to liken them to
the weapons, devices, and potions that the mythical hero must pack before
setting out on their quest. Perhaps it’s Frodo’s Elvish dagger and Dwarven
chain mail in Lord of the Rings, or Luke Skywalker’s use of the Force in Star
Wars, or even the numerous gadgets that James Bond uses in every movie.
Whatever the case, these heroes go into their quest recognizing that they’ll
get into some tight spots, and that they will need to have some tools at their
disposal if they want to get through it alive.
Even if you won’t be facing orcs and storm troopers in your
weight loss quest, you’ll still need tools of your own to get through it
intact. In putting together your tool bag, the important thing to remember is
that your tools aren’t just there to tend to your physical needs. Action flows
from thoughts, which are directed by emotions, and all are held in place by a
spiritual belief system. A balanced tool bag, then, will have tools that tend
to your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs.
In my book I share a series of tools that worked for me, but
I’ve come to realize that one of the most important tools was actually writing
the e-book itself. It is said that we teach what we most need to learn, and I
certainly found that to be true as I put pen to paper on this project. It
helped me remember all the key learnings that I had on this weight loss journey,
and it allowed me to more fully integrate them into my being. Once again, it
was the internal expressed in the outside world.
I’m sure all of you have had a learning experience, and in
some cases this may be something that you want to avoid having to learn again!
Writing an e-book can help – it’s the biggest Self-Care tool of all! Why don’t
you join me?
