Sometimes disruptions have a way of balancing us. The recent
grounding of all the European flights by the volcanic ash from Iceland, which
left thousands of travelers stranded, is a good example.
I had an insightful email from a friend who listened to a
waylaid man being interviewed on the radio. While he waited he kept himself
busy writing blogs and articles, rather than using this "found time"
to go out and explore the city of London, something he has always wanted to
find the time to do.
She rightly declared that such an outing would have been the
feminine energy response, but instead he practiced masculine energy, which
wants to keep busy and make good use of time. "So a natural event shut
down masculine energy big-time, and how do people respond? With more masculine
energy!" she wisely exclaimed.
Suddenly it hit me how this paralleled a recent experience
for me. I was scheduled to speak at an event over 3 hours away by car, and we
got a big spring snowstorm that closed down the highways. I tried in vain to
figure out how to get there but it wasn't meant to be. After much angst, I
conceded and called my regrets to the organizers.
There were some lessons for me in this: first, I was aware
that my masculine energy, using grit and determination, would go to all lengths
to make it happen, even risking my safety. Secondly, I realized that I needed
to take some of my own advice and be open to my feminine energy. So I stepped
back and said, "I trust there is an ebb and a flow to things. Could I need
the day to be still instead?"
Energy hungers for balance the way water reaches its own
level, and our world has way too much masculine energy. Maybe both the volcanic
ash and the snowstorm are the universe's way of slowing us down and encouraging
us to accept the feminine in our lives? If we keep piling on more masculine
energy activities (like the guy interviewed on the radio), we'll have to keep
learning that lesson time and time again. Have you considered that setbacks
that cause you to recalibrate your energy might actually be progress in
disguise?

My new e-book "Love the Woman in the Mirror" will be available tomorrow!
Great post! It's amazing how the Earth is trying to give us great big messages that we continue to ignore. Hopefully more and more can listen to their own intuition to guide their actions.
Great insights about the feminine energy. After living in the masculine energy of the business world, I am trying to fully embrace the feminine energy as much as I can, and get the right balance. I'm trying to be as authentic to my own true values as much as I can (and trying to use my blog to do it.)
Excellent work, glad I found your blog!

When I left the business world all I wanted was to wear long dangly earrings, lots of noisy bracelets and skits that flowed. I was desperate for the feminine, I had supressed it for so long. I told this at a women's conference that I attended and another retired woman came up and told me that when she left the male diminated business world she went out immediately and got false fingernails! You have a great blog Kara and I'd recommend everyone have a look: www.conduitofjoy.com Thanks for connecting, BA
