I thought about this after reading an article in the New York Times about the TV show "The Biggest Loser." Contestants who join the show have out-of-control weight issues and are increasingly desperate to slim down. But in their drive to “win” – to lose the most weight – their competitive masculine energy rears its fat head. Overly attached to the number on the scale, contestants practice some very unhealthy weight-loss techniques, and past contestants have admitted to starvation and dehydration before weigh-ins.
Having said that, many of the show's participants successfully make change in their lives, and inspire others to do the same. It’s a popular show, and viewers love to see what those who enter can accomplish when they put their minds to it.
If you are thinking about losing weight, it’s important to avoid the pitfalls and use the masculine energy that is in each of us to your advantage. Focus on the end result, but balance it with inner knowledge and healthy practices. Here are a couple of tips:
1) Put in place a food plan that is right for you. Make it one that is not too extreme – you want to challenge yourself, but don’t drive yourself crazy!
2) Be aware of situations or people that trigger a problem with sticking to your food plan. Spending time with those that support your mindset for change will provide the best results.
3) Focus on following your rules and practices, not the scale. In the long run the strategy will pay dividends, but we have to let go of external expectations which simply create anxiety and exacerbate the desire to eat.
Ultimately, properly-channeled masculine energy can help us reach our weight-loss goals and create an inspiring story. How have you used your masculine energy to accomplish your goals?

For me weight loss is all in the messages in my mind- either I am in a state of anxiety where I want to eat everything I see or I am at peace, not fussed by passing up food. So these are the things I to write about- I apply this to food, work or money- all issues that affect women. Thanks for your comment. BA
