One of the most viable solutions toward addressing the economic problems prevalent in Africa is also one of the most overlooked - help women help themselves! By investing in
the neglected potential of over half of Uganda’s population, Dr. Maggie Kigozi has given power to those who have the capacity to help revitalize the troubled country's infrastructure. I'd like to highlight Dr. Kigozi's achievements in putting the power for growth into the hands those who can help it the most - its women!

Under Maggie's leadership as Executive Director of the Uganda Investment Authority in 1999, foreign and domestic investments have continued to grow. As a result of her efforts, the Uganda Investment Authority won the Corporate Location Prize for the best Investment Promotion Agency in Africa and the Middle East in 2001. Maggie has actively set a first-hand example of success, one contrary to the
ingrained gender biases that have held the country back for so long. Stability and credibility in a government institution like hers are absolutely vital for a healthy economy.
Dr. Maggie Kigozi continues to be actively involved in several local and international organizations for women's economic empowerment in Uganda, as well as in other parts of Africa. In keeping with the second Stilletto Step of self-acceptance, Maggie has used her fierce feminine idealism and coupled it with the necessary masculine drive to set a brilliant example. Dr. Kigozi is exactly the sort of individual Africa needs right now, and I'm proud to help honor her achievements.
