A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that I am sponsoring this year’s TIAW World of Difference Awards, which honors those who have made extraordinary efforts in the economic empowerment of their fellow women. The ceremony is on Monday, and I’d like to highlight a few of the extraordinary women who will be honored.

First on the list is
Carina Lundberg-Markow, Director of Responsible Investment at the Folksam Group. During her tenure she has made it her business to vet Swedish companies to determine their track record on
promoting women to leadership positions. In this way, she is able to ensure that her company is supportive of organizations which recognize the value and importance of having women managers. This is a topic that’s near and dear to my heart, and Carina is a shining example of a woman using her position to help other women and improve her company in the process.
Research shows that having women in the boardroom leads to more responsible corporate governance – so it’s not just the right thing to do, it’s the smart thing to do.
Mrs. Lundberg-Markow has not limited herself to women’s issues, either: she has pushed for more corporate diversity, stronger social responsibility, higher ethical standards, and a commitment to environmental sustainability. These are all causes that exemplify the benefits of having more feminine energy in organizations. They are issues that I have fought for during my corporate career, and I know we have to take the fifth Stilletto Step of Self-Reliance to see these initiatives through. I am delighted that the TIAW awards are recognizing women like Carina who are demonstrating these ideals, and I am privileged to be a part of it.
